Spitney’s short guide to:

  • Food:

    • MyThai - Cheap, authentic Thai food. Definitely recommend the Massaman curry!

    • Zaytoni - Giant Shawarma wrap packed full of tasty, good stuff for a fiver!

    • Fuwa Fuwa - Japanese soufflé pancakes, insanely delicious!

    • Pollen Bakery - Manchester’s famous bakery, sandwiches and treats with a view.

    • Maricarmen - Tapas! Social, tasty, won’t break the bank.

    • Ezra & Gil - My all time favourite breakfast spot! On the more expensive side, but whole, tasty food with quality ingredients.

    Drinks

    • Palms Coffee - Close to the studio, awesome cakes and cookies too!

    • Idle Hands - My go-to city centre coffee spot. Plus, cherry pie <3

    • HeyTea - Best bubble tea! If the Piccadilly Gardens venue is busy, there’s a quieter one in Chinatown.

  • For a bit of culture:

    • The John Rylands Library

    • Chethams Library

    • HOME - cinema/art gallery

    • Manchester Art Gallery

    For edgier vibes; independent food spots, bars, art shops, records and LGS visit:

    • Northern Quarter

    • Afflecks Palace

    Places to hang out:

    • St. Peters Square

    • New Islington Marina

    • Cathedral Gardens

  • All of these recommendations are hotels that I have personally stayed in:

    • Native, Ducie St. - Aparthotel, pet friendly, awesome vibes all round.

    • Wilde, Dickinsons St. - Aparthotel, chic, quiet, central. (Amazing views from their higher floors)

    • The Midlands, St. Peters Sq. - Fancy, chic, pool and fabulous breakfast! My favourite place to stay though on the more expensive side!

    • EasyHotel, Dale St. - Central, cosy, budget friendly! Perfect for when you just need a place to lay your head.

Foodie spotlight

  • Fuwa Fuwa

    Japanese soufflé pancakes, SO GOOD. May need a reservation on peak days.

  • Ezra & Gil

    My favourite brunch spot! *Tip: Visit the Peter Street venue to avoid queues.

  • Palms Coffee (and cakes!)

    A couple of minutes walk from the studio. Great coffee, excellent sweet treats!

  • Pollen Bakery

    Sandwiches and pastries overlooking New Islington Marina.

  • Idle Hands

    My go-to city centre coffee spot. They do a mean cherry pie!

  • Zaytoni

    Huge shawarma wraps filled with tasty, good stuff for only a fiver! Central, on the go - not for cats :P

  • Browns

    If you fancy something a bit posh! Seasonal menus set in a gorgeous former bank.

  • My Thai

    Authentic, affordable pit stop for Thai food. I eat there every time I’m in town!

  • HeyTea

    My favourite bubble tea place. Brown Sugar Milk tea or Matcha Cloud always!
